Ancient carved devotional mother of pearl
Devotional shell in mother of pearl carved with sacred scenes.
The custom was to use them for baptismal water.
This type of manufacturing developed from the sixteenth to the nineteenth century in southern Italy, especially in Sicily, and then reached Palestine.
There are four sacred scenes:
the annunciation, birth, presentation to the Magi and baptism.
At the top there is the hook.
